Panasonic making some secure Android tablet offerings.
Panasonic has begun shipping its rugged BizPads with Mocana’s VeloDAR Encryption software to improve the security of the tablets within enterprise environments.
According to Mocana, which specializes in security software for non-PC devices such as smartphones, datacom, smartgrid, as well as electronic products for government and medical markets, the VeloDAR software monitors and secures all components of a connected device.
Designed as a data-at-rest (DAR) encryption software, Mocana states that its NanoCrypto cryptographic module meets FIPS 140-2 Level 1 requirements via AES-CBC 128-bit or AES-XTS 256-bit encryption and goes well beyond the native Android support for encryption. Despite the strong encryption feature, the manufacturer promises that there are “virtually zero performance penalties” noticeable on a smartphone or tablet and battery life remains “robust”. In contrast to other security solutions, Mocana said that VeloDAR is not just a port of PC software, but has been developed specifically for non-PC devices such as Android phones or tablets.

BizPad for Android – An Enterpise Tablet
With its new BizPads, Panasonic is taking aim at various vertical markets that equip especially field technicians with tablets and replace older tablet PCs or even UMPCs where those devices may still be in service. The water-proof tablets are shipping a dual-core ARM Cortex-A9 processor, 16 GB integrated NAND flash storage, 1 GB RAM, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and NFC capability an IC card reader. The IPS capacitive display delivers a 1280 x 800 pixel resolution.
